Helpful Moving Tips from Goodalls Removal Company
If you are packing yourself start as soon as you can, start with those things you hardly use.
Begin packing at least two weeks before you move.
Don’t forget the attic.
Sort out any clutter. Sell, recycle or
throw away any unneeded items.
Use strong boxes; don’t over load them. Make sure the boxes are not too heavy. If a box you are filling is becoming heavy, try filling the rest of the box with light items such as linen, cushions or soft toys.
Use tape (available from us) to secure both the top
and bottom of all boxes.
Pack books in small boxes.
Mark all boxes as to which room they should go to in your new home and mark fragile, if necessary.
Make a note of what items, such as furniture, are staying and make sure you tell the removal crew from the offset.
Clothes can be left drawers at your discretion.
Wardrobe boxes can be provided on loan.
Make sure that lids are securely fastened
and that bottles are stood upright.
Use plenty of bubble wrap and paper
(available from us) for fragile items.
Bin bags can be used to pack bedding and other linen.
You will need to defrost your freezer about 2 days before your removal. If, however, you have been quoted to have your freezer moved with its contents, please put the frozen items in polythene bags so they can be lifted out whilst moving freezer and then be placed back with minimum fuss.
Sit down and either write some directions or draw a map on how to get to your new address, include a contact telephone number, if possible. Multi map is a good website for directions and maps as is Google Maps.
When your removal date is near, contact gas, electric and water authorities as they will all, normally, need at least 48 hours notice. Don’t forget phone and internet and a redirection of mail for three months may be desirable to avoid any oversights.
If there are parking problems outside your property, it would be a good idea to park your own cars outside so that the removal lorry will able to park close to your property.
On your moving day please leave your kettle, tea, coffee and a few mugs out; house moving is thirsty business and ideally they will be the last on the lorry and first off.
On the day of your removal the crew will be with you at the agreed time in the morning. Your house will be packed into the removal vehicle/vehicles by 1 pm; in a perfect world keys should be exchanged at about 1 pm and subject to the journey requirements to your new property, we would aim to be unpacked before tea time.
We are always pleased to hear from our valued customers,
